nah it really can be. If i were trans, and a friend of mine believed that meant i had a severe mental illness and that I was a threat to children, I probably wouldn’t be interested in being friends with them anymore.

if you’re talking about small beans shit like economic policy or tax reform or whether or not we should be investing in nuclear power, sure, but when someone doesn’t believe in your existence, or believes that you are categorically a detriment to society and should be ostracized and hated for it, that’s a pretty big deal.
