the bill has very specific language to prevent this

even if they’ve been tampering for months, the bill requires a written explanation for any redactions. so if they’ve just been blacking shit out they now have to make reasons for every single one. potentially thousands upon thousands. in less than one month.

It’s also illegal to rape people or tamper with elections and yet here we are

being miserable and constantly downplaying any wins our side has is exactly why they get away with this shit so often

civil rights and women’s rights activists never once stopped and said “well they’ve never given us our rights the 1000 other times we’ve tried” they kept trying until they won

Idk why but I’m convinced they’re just not going to listen 💀 what prevents them from just denying that certain files exist?

Couldn’t their reason be “national security” and then we get no further explanation

no, they have to specify why it’s a threat to national security

I’m not trying to be intentionally cynical, just expressing my frustration with the depth of the corruption in the federal gov. We have plenty of laws that similarly guarantee transparency in theory and they’ve also been trampled over. What makes you call this a win when we haven’t even seen what’s going to be produced?

Antifa is “a threat to national security”. Ozturk was a “threat to national security”. They can make up any reason they please, it doesn’t have to make sense

because it was a unanimous vote the republican party is quite literally leaving trump out to dry they know he’s on them and they do not want to explain why they voted to protect him. this is unprecedented. their entire administration is built on undying loyalty to him.

you’re not listening, the bill is very specific with its language they quite literally cannot just bullshit their way out of this

also, the national security thing can only temporarily block parts of the files so even if they do do that we’ll still see what they’re trying to hide eventually.

I’m sorry I just don’t see them coming out of lock step just yet, disloyalty is still dangerous. I think they’ve finished doctoring it and are releasing something unproblematic with trumps blessing so everyone will shut up about it

no, every single redaction per the bill requires an explanation. if they’ve been doing this for months they now need to fabricate reasons for thousands of individual redactions which have already taken months in less than one month.

I don’t think I’ve said anything to indicate that I wasn’t listening or reading your comments. You spoke about needing written reasons for redactions and those reasons needing to be national security related. Many lies that fit the bill have already been told, I’m not sure what’s keeping them from continuing to lie

Can I ask what makes you so sure that they’ll release non redacted copies eventually? This is the same admin that openly flaunts the constitution and blows up civilians in international waters. Why would they adhere to these specific sets of laws?

because this is lose lose even if they release them redacted it definitively proves they have shit to hide the same way it would if they were released in full, there is a massive amount of attention and pressure on this they cannot get by by bullshitting again

the fact that the votes for this were unanimous means that they know this too this is no longer a battle they can win. releasing them redacted is illegal, even if no one faces any consequences, the backlash would be more intense than you can imagine. i don’t think you realize how big this is, it goes beyond just the US.

I really hope you are correct but I personally just don’t believe you are. I think there’s many ways they can simply vanish problematic files and I seriously doubt the release of what’s left will cause any significant rift in the maga party. Again, really hope I’m wrong here
