No..? Lawyers and Judges are already “experts” in their field of law. We have a whole amendment guaranteeing right to a speedy trial actually, so you aren’t just stuck in jail waiting for lawyers to debate your trial

This isn’t about lawyers or judges

(And yes there are exclusions for lots of things so an uber complex trial isn’t enforced the same way

I’m talking about the fact that cops only need a cursory knowledge of the law before being trusted with the full authority of the state to enforce it. We give these people guns and set them loose in our streets with really only an emphasis on the case law that only protects them, seems to me like a bad idea from the start

Yeah cops often make kinda basic law mistakes. I’m not sure that’s the biggest issue…? I’d think the bigger issue is cops selectively enforcing laws with racism, or other abuses where something may be legal and the cop knows it, but they don’t care and invent a bullshit reason to arrest you anyways.

Or like ICE agents just killing you in the streets or whatever, and then the Trump admin saying “you can’t bring guns to protests” which is just a straight lie, not a lack of knowledge
