I think he’s going to wait until July 13 (last day) so the Dems scramble to find his replacement (who has to be announced by the 27iirc) and people are still going to write him in to split the vote, or even refuse to rank the new nominee in protest. But that’s a bit cynical. He could not drop out at all and Dems could just turn all their money to Texas and he flounders without campaign aid. But who knows
