For some I’m sure it’s a sense of patriotism, for others it’s just economic benefits and social mobility. Rhodesia and apartheid South Africa had black soldiers too. IIRC among Israeli Arabs, the Bedouins are the ones who are most commonly involved in the military, though that’s declined in recent years.
That’s a really stupid and unserious argument. But while we’re talking about Arabs in Israel here are some fun facts. Not only are there displaced Palestinians living in Gaza and the West Bank but also in the present day borders of Israel. They’re called the present absentees and they have annual marches of return where they march to the places where their homes used to be
But let’s not forget that there are Arab Jews (or Mizrachim if you prefer) living in Israel! Did you know that there were incidents of Mizrachi children being sprayed with pesticides upon entering Israel? Did you know that many Mizrachi families had their children taken from them to live with Ashkenazim? Did you know that Israeli radio stations didn’t play the music that Mizrachim listened to on the radio for a long time, or that they lived in shanty towns on top of land mines?
The U.S. currently has a shit ton of Black and Latino soldiers and any serious person who calls Israel and apartheid state extends that critique to here, too. The same country that sends armed thugs (who sometimes using tactics they learned from the IDF) to kill its own citizens sends those same citizens to die in the desert for its own selfish interests
