Man the study is legitimate but to claim it’s the sole cause of autism is such bullshit, terrible that legitimate research is being bastardized by this

Also I’ve never heard of leucovorin, is this some pseudoscience? How is it supposed to treat autism?

Yeah I doubt that’s real… once the baby’s out of the womb you can’t “treat” the autism as far as I know. Maybe they mean take it right after Tylenol to counteract it? But I doubt they’re putting their best scientific minds to this

I’ve done some more research and it seems like there’s something to do with an autoimmune issue that causes folate deficiency. And this deficiency can cause kids to be nonverbal and have other symptoms that usually present as potential autism in toddlers/young kids

Ok I looked into the Mt. Sinai study and apparently the lead author has previously been a paid expert witness in lawsuits over Tylenol? That might be a conflict of interest. His testimony was thrown out of court apparently

You seem familiar with this so I’ll ask you — the vibe I’m getting is that this is for kids or moms who have folate receptor autoantibodies, so they might end up with a folate deficiency. This is only a small subset of autistic kids though, right? This isn’t some cure-all?

I’m not gonna lie i don’t know a lot about this, I just happen to know about this particular study because I know people who were involved with it. It seems like folate deficiency leads to congenital defects, but I don’t see a link to autism. I imagine it would help pregnant mothers but I doubt it would do much for autism. The one other thing is that it’s often taken in tandem with other medication to reduce the side effects. I don’t think it would work with Tylenol but it’s possible that’s —

— why they’re recommending it. I guess we’ll have to wait and see what they say, but your guess is as good as mine.
