The funniest thing is that I do debate, and have worked REALLY hard to limit the filler words I use because I am publicly speaking, but people who view filler words as a sign of intellectual inferiority are just wrong. Filler words are the sounds people make when they haven’t become comfortable with pausing when they speak. It also happens with people who have a history of being interrupted frequently. The intellectual elitism is just wrong, and repulsive. 😒
