The only correct answer is that Al-Qaeda did 9/11 and American intelligence agencies did not prevent it despite prior knowledge, whether you attribute that to incompetence or malice is up to you

Ppl don’t want to admit Al Qaeda did it bc it means acknowledging the fact that we aren’t always the good guys and our actions have consequences, it’s easier to blame some conspiracy so that we’re all victims as a country

Ppl believe some faction in the us government did it therefore the country as a whole is vindicated from our history of foreign policy fuckups in the Middle East up til then

That “faction” would be the president of the United States. Which then spurred another concept of the CIA being the ones who initiated the attack. So that itself is another layer of epistemic truth to anyone who believes in that reality. Again, the strict correct truth here is irrelevant if a good chunk of people don’t believe it

What’s the evidence they maliciously let it happen? That’s why homeland security was made bc all of the agencies weren’t communicating enough with each other.
