Friendly reminder that as immigration enforcement has increased Trump has fired immigration judges. This creates a backlog that keeps people in ICE camps. If ice stopped today it would still take over 5 years to finish all cases.

It was never about deportation as it would be counterproductive to slow these cases down. Additionally 90% of these detention centers are privately owned by either CoreCivic of the Geo group. Trump also undid a move Biden that limited private prison contracts.

Also worth noting that the entire southern border is closed to essentially all refugees, which is the first time that’s happened since we created procedures for entering with refugee status after WWII. They do not want these folks to be able to become legal
