Not entirely. They have to have a permit (which they obviously did not have lol). But I think overall this is an important reminder about civil disobedience and purposefully breaking the law and willingly being arrested is a significant form of protesting and often times the literal goal of planned and organized demonstrations

if I’m being honest I heavily dislike the premise of requiring a permit, regardless of standing case law; in my perspective it’s a method of overwhelmingly limiting the extent and form of protests, especially with how the permitting system was weaponized during the civil rights movement and afterwards. nevertheless, the Supreme Court mandated it the law of the land :( aside from that I entirely agree. a protest is fundamentally rooted in civil disobedience, and if no one is willing to push
