I don’t think the benefit of any given policy is always totally correlated to how popular it is. And it’s not like Democrats got blown out either in 2024. The whole blue vs. red fight over who controls the narrative is decided by like 5% changes in the distribution of votes to parties

I’m not gonna defend the Democratic Party cause I’m pretty displeased with them too but trump won because he successfully lied to uneducated supporters, that’s pretty much it. He ran on immigration policy as a tool to address crime which is pretty clearly nonsense, bragged about cutting waste and is now overspending, said he’d reduce costs but instead did the opposite with his tariffs…etc

People voted for him bc he’s an actor and they liked the lines he delivered. Pair that with a very unappealing moderate democratic ‘do everything but nothing well’ type candidate and the outcome makes sense to me
