To be fair, the Trump admin has ramped the dehumanization and blatant mid day murder and torture. I wasn’t old enough to pay attention to politics in most of the Obama admin so I don’t by heart if it was on the same level, but I agree, the Obama admin objectively isn’t innocent in a multitude of ways.

Not to defend these actions but I do think they were less picked up upon by the media (which isn’t great, but). There was pushback to Obama and co but it was fringe. Nowadays abolish ice is becoming a more mainstream position even among a lot of liberals

The ACLU and other orgs sued Obama’s DHS multiple times. I think the media was too busy with the financial crisis, terrorism/wars, etc

Yeah there was a lot of pushback, it was just more fringe because there was other stuff that the media focused on. It doesn’t excuse anything but I do think that for a lot of people this is the first time they’re hearing about ice’s human rights abuses.
