You have to remember in the conservative “trad wife” type ideology, that so many of them follow, “female empowerment” comes from having no agency and is all about being a submissive wife for a man. a classmate i had had that same opinion. i was like "so what if it was a man?". he looked disgusted so i asked "what if it was a woman who looked and sounded like that man?" and he was like "oh... yeah i guess that would suck...". i'm pretty sure i witnessed his first moment of empathy with victims of assault/rape

This is gonna have the opposite effect that we want. While I wish the worst on pedophiles and rapists the death penalty or other huge punishments for the perp will also be known to the Victim. All that the family member the family friend or whatever has to do to get a child to shut up is tell them that if they report them, they’re going to die. It’s hardly ever strangers that commit these terrible acts. Same w putting huge punishments on people who falsely accuse.

It’s already really hard to prove, especially with how many rape kits never even make it to the testing centers or how many people experienced abuse from people in power, especially cops. This is not an area where we can come out with a punishment mindset without punishing the victims more.
