It makes sense. You can easily spend millions in research breeding the perfect plant for your product and the competition just takes your plant. It protects companies allows them to grow plants they want. Farmers just can’t replant the seeds. You can still grow generic plants like russet potatoes but you can’t grow Lays FC5 potato which they spent millions in research on

Oh you meant patenting actual seeds. Holy balls, that is insidious. Patenting fertilizer blends is one thing, but the food we grow? No fuck that.

Again it’s not the food you eat most often. It’s only specific things like pink pineapple and FC5 potatoes and things like that 99% of the fruits and vegetables you eat are not patented.
