
This is becoming a whole debate in biology right now. It's impossible to define sex by chromosomes or physical attributes because of the amount of variation that happens. For example, someone who believes males are individuals with XY chromosomes must consider individuals with complete androgen insensitivity as male, though they often develop (and identify as) female. Even disregarding all this, we conflate "male/female" and "man/woman" so often that the point of assigning definitions to (1/2)
either sets of words becomes almost pointless. "Men" and "women" aren't biological terms, they are genders and therefore rooted in sociology. Defining "man" is different than defining "male." It's whole fucking headache and a half, especially to have this conversation with people who don't have any background knowledge or information on the topic (2/2)
