Corn syrup is a much bigger waste of water. AI uses a little water but the real burden is on our electricity supply, not our water supply.but the water is already in the sap of the corn plant stalk and they boil it off to isolate the sugars. it’s the same with maple syrup (but at a lesser limited rate ofc) AI Data Centers rely on strictly freshwater and taints the water from being drinkable, let alone safe to return to the environment or a ground aquifer… it’s just not feasible to store that much drinkable water in CPUs instead of reservoirs, aquifers, drinking water treatment plants, or other more logical scenarios.
and corn is one of those superfoods/grains used in everything like soybeans… majority of the water uptaken by plants (85% i think) exits thru the stoma of the epidermis of the leaves. then we boil off the water in the left left in the stalk (sap) for the sugar inside… i’m all for freshwater conservation, im huge on it, but i don’t think corn is our biggest issue in comparison to CAFOs. i respect your tenacity tho. 🫡
yes and i had indicated that the meat industry (CAFOs = concentrated animal feeding operations) are the problem, not the corn industry itself since corn is a crucial base grain for many other food products produced globally. i took a freshwater conservation course a few years ago and we talked shit about CAFOs a lot in that class.
you are NOT dumb! you had a fair concern and made your statement with logical reasoning! you are allowed to learn more… and if you’re being sarcastic/facetious, that’s welcome too. it seems that freshwater used on corn operations is maintained within the water cycle. comparatively, water used in cooling towers of data centers would be highly removed from the water cycle and limiting the resource… my undergrad was Biology (mainly freshwater & algae) and my grad program is Education btw!
