If we’re being real I don’t blame them for caving bc you gotta think about the effects of it. If the government shutdown continued even into another week it would’ve been very detrimental for Americans. Think about all the ppl who will now be able to buy their groceries because a “deal/compromise” was reached. Think about all the government employees who will now be able to come back to work because of it. They just had to cut flights by 10% but think about how detrimental all of this

Would’ve been on the economy. More stores rely on snap benefits than you would think. If those stores aren’t getting money then how will they be able to stay open? It’s basically a trickle down effect and the government staying shut down isn’t an option anymore.

if totally caving was on the table, they shouldn’t have let the shutdown happen in the first place. and the ACA premium subsidies far exceed the average SNAP benefit. This will be very detrimental for Americans in a much more permanent way

OTOH everyone’s premiums will rise and many people will no longer be able to afford health insurance. Courts ordered them to fund SNAP and they defied the courts
