Reminder that there is currently a bipartisan resolution in the house that aims to condemn Hasan Piker for antisemitism, along with Candace Owens. This is what our government is spending their time on. And this definitely isn’t an attack on free speech.

Strange that Charlie Kirk is not being conemned, hell… he’s been pretty silent on Israel in general recently. Has he been hit with the woke mind virus?

to be clear, the purpose of this resolution (reading between the lines) is to pressure universities who have hosted or plan on hosting Piker, and effectively de-platform him. Regardless of how you feel about Hasan’s viewpoints, opining about the content of citizens’ speech is not congress’s business.

also it’s important to recognize that Candace Owens and Hasan Piker are entirely incomparable in terms of antisemitism claims. Hasan Piker is a critic of Israel’s actions and avowed antizionist. Candace Owens routinely says blood libel shit and has called information about Mengele’s holocaust experiments propaganda, and that’s the tip of the iceberg.

They did pass a resolution during COVID that addressed the rise in racism against Asians, so this isn’t entirely unprecedented. There’s a reason it’s a resolution and not anything that legally matters. This is mostly a symbolic statement, like an open letter

calling out specific people is extremely unusual and reads as an implicit threat when Piker has had recent university talks, and the trump admin is threatening funding to curb antizionist speech.

yeah but it feels worse to violate first amendment protections and implicitly threaten the funding of universities who may be interested in hosting him WHILE wasting valuable legislative time where you could be applying war power limits to the conflict in Iran or demanding the release of the epstein files
