I would be careful to use religious concepts to defend the need for religion. It’s circular reasoning, what is “salvation”? And most people aren’t non religious for those reasons, it’s just many people put other things above religious concepts. Many people are still practicing, just not using it to define or control their day to day life and concept of morals or ideology.
