This is something I’ve always been confused about because Zionist say you can’t blame Jews for the actions of Israel which I 💯agree with but then when I say anything negative about Israel they say it’s antisemitism because Israel is the only Jewish state

Zionists absolutely want the actions of Israel to be the actions of all Jews. It’s not, but they wish it was.

you know how sometimes people say something about Iran and you’re like “holy shit that was racist” but it doesn’t mean you think iran is perfect? its like that but if there were only 16 million muslims instead of 2 billion and only one Muslim state instead of 50 and 8 million of the 16 million lived in that one country most of whom had come there as refugees because they had no other option and everyone knew each other

also it is true that American Jews overall have a relationship with Israel and the vast majority of individual American Jews do too, although that relationship can be anywhere from warm to strained to full of hatred. American Jews as a group have a small amount of influence on Israel sometimes but not officially or politically. individual American Jews have no influence

we also, contrary to what many people believe, don’t have enough political power in the US to significantly shape US policy towards Israel one way or another. it’s wrong to blame individual Jews for what Israel does because they’re not responsible for it. but it’s also wrong to make Jews having no relationship at all with Israel a prerequisite for not hating them because most of us don’t have a choice but to be connected in some way

I know that it’s wrong to blame some random individual Jew for the actions of Israel & I also know that the average Jew in America has no more political power than anyone else. The argument is that institutions & people in power can’t have their cake & eat it too by saying that one it’s wrong to blame the actions of Israel on individual Jews which again I 💯 agree with but also talking about how important Israel is to Jews & how it must be supported on the basis of being a Jewish state or

Claiming that it’s antisemitism to talk negatively about the Jewish state.
