The flag they have on their uniforms is the flag that represents the government and is the same flag that has been used when committing atrocities both now and throughout history

Germany has made leaps and bounds in their policies since the holocaust. The US has emulated them. The German flag now represents progress whereas the American flag represents the fascism from the past and present

Many of them probably don’t have the choice to just represent a country which has a totally clean track record historically (if that exists) on a whim and competing in their sports is their livelihood. Do you expect them to sacrifice their source of income just because the government makes choices they disagree with?

exactly. they know full and damn well that the flag is more than just the government, and they know that the US is more than its politics. the athletes chose to represent the country that they call home and all of the people in it. many of them have even explicitly denounced everything trump has done/is doing. the US is still a beautiful country full of diversity, and it is worth representing at the global level.
