The hotel was still open to regular guests. He got in because he was allowed in, and he didn’t get further and no one died because security did their job. Proper security at a school only lets in people authorized to be there

No. He checked in before the lockdown started. He wrote about it in his manifesto

Why do we need to fund a ballroom though in order for security to be upgraded? We don’t have to build new schools for an upgrade in security. If anything there should be new laws funding the security of hotels like laws funding the security of schools. Why not give everyone access to proper protection from shooters? It would create jobs too with hiring more security in places.

It’s not “needed,” but it’s a proposal that also makes sense. The comparison to schools only works if schools were having their classes at an off-site hotel that’s open to the public. Why worry about securing a hotel that’s open to the public when you can host your own events in a secure location? Plus the added justification of adding military infrastructure underneath.

It’s not “necessary” as in the only option, but it’s AN option. Hotels hosting events don’t NEED to be secured because the events can always be hosted anywhere else. Schools don’t have that luxury, the point of a school building is to host classes for the kids that attend
