Party politics is quite literally the illusion of choice. Just enough Dems voted (at the direction of party leadership) to not limit war powers. This enables a false partisan divide while still letting the elites pass the agenda they want.
This wasn’t at the direction of party leadership. It was clear why these people voted the way they did. Just look at the AIPAC money:
