It’s the principle of consistency/sunk cost fallacy - they’ve put a lot of effort/lost a lot of family members/lost a lot of money/lost their health by making their entire identity being trump supporters. They’ll be shaken when he’s gone and I think many of them will realize with horror how robbed they’ve been. Largely, I think they deserve pity - it will be a cruel awakening to their reality.
