I’m sorry. I’m sorry that people misrepresented Jesus to you. Jesus had bad experiences with religious zealots, too. They killed him, in fact. The christians you see. The ones supporting all of this? They, too, will be judged by the King of Kings.

Hey, you’re probably gonna get a few asshats who troll you but I just wanna say thank you for this. I grew up in a very religious household and had a lot of trauma from it. It wasn’t till college that one of my roommates who was a Christian showed me that not all of yall are inherently bad or evil people. Today im an atheist but I always make sure to give the Christians I meet an opportunity to show me that they are kind people before judging them simply based on their religion

The Romans killed Jesus. Much of what's in the gospels, especially the later ones, is spin

OP, I have an extremely genuine question for you. I promise I’m not trying to attack you for your views, or anything like that. But the question does need to be asked. The King of Kings lives in Heaven. He has not once influenced my life. His human followers have. So much, in fact, that we know the names of several of the HUMAN authors of the Bible — and know the rest were, at the very least, mortal. The Bible is a Human creation, not Holy - and every action in its name is a human choice.

If humans wrote the word - and are the ones executing it - and justifying their Human actions on the Human book that Humans wrote - and THAT’S THE ONLY VESSEL BY WHICH THE WHOLE WORLD HAS EVER INTERACTED WITH THE WORD OF “GOD” - how do I walk away with the conclusion that it’s the Human’s fault for misinterpretating the Holy when no Holy is present in the equation? How do I not view every single atrocity committed in the name of Jesus as the only REAL impact Jesus had on the world?

It is the core pretext of theological theory, especially amongst catholics such as myself, that although the Gospel was written by Man in a book made by Man with pens and paper made by Man the words were given to them by the Almighty. Of course Christians know that the words of the Gospel were written by other human beings. But that’s the point. God chooses to reveal himself through fallible people, not around them.

When Jesus was born, that was God deciding to become human, complete with all the limits, culture, and vulnerabilities that all human beings have. Of course scripture is messy, politically contradictory, and bound to certain cultures. It’s incarnated in history like Christ was. Like you and I will be, too, someday.

In short. The Bible is not the Word of God. Jesus is the Word of God. “I am the way, and the truth, and the lie. No one comes to the father except through me.” -John 14:6

OP, I need you to understand that that’s the *point i’m trying to make.* “No one comes to the father except through me.” says JOHN. Why should I trust that JOHN is telling the truth? How do we know that JOHN isn’t trying to advance his OWN agenda by positing himself as a prophet? What’s the difference between John the Disciple and John Barker of Alabama?

And perhaps I’m disagreeing with the concept of faith. That y’all KNOW there’s no concrete way to prove that - and choose to devote your lives anyway. There is power in that. But I’m queer. People stake my rights on this shit. Faith is not enough for me to be okay with losing the ability to marry again because a “misguided Christian” decided I should.

I’ll make my beliefs crystal clear then. Gay rights are human rights. Trans rights are human rights. The bible is clear about where it stands on homosexuality. “If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.” And the bible is wrong.

Many evangelical sects of Catholicism, namely Baptists, are what we would call “by the book” christians. They take the Gospel as, well, gospel. And that it is the infallible word of God. Catholics, however, believe that Christianity is not about a book. It is about a man. And I can say with relative certainty that if God were to return to earth today, he may feast with you personally.

I’m the same way except not atheist but don’t go to church anymore because I don’t believe the people leading even know what they are following anymore so I practice on my own. It boggles my mind to see what Christianity at least in the US has turned into. They keep tryna convert ppl too and I’m like whyyyy tf would anyoneee listen to u.. but it pmo the most the MAGA has weaponized it and uses it as a blanket to cover their racism and homophobia. Makes me SO mad

As a catholic, I actually never even knew that baptists were considered “by the book” and that makes so much sense! I als don’t think faith is as black and white as people say. There are so many different religions and I’m not gonna say one is wrong and one is right. Ur beliefs are your beliefs and it’s a personal relationship only between u and the god u believe in. Jesus also died for our sins. If u “sin” I don’t believe u will go to hell. I believe if u have a good relationship with god,

He will save you from your sins and forgive you, because that’s also what it says in the bible and what I choose to believe. So who cares if you are gay, even if it’s considered a sin I don’t think you are deemed to hell because we ALL sin and all have the ability to go to heaven (if that’s your belief)
