every country that has universal healthcare also has private healthcare. the universal keeps the private healthcare’s cost reasonable the private keeps the universal healthcare’s wait time avoidable if needed

These aren’t entirely mutually exclusive (although tbf, you didn’t really imply they are). The Netherlands has compulsory insurance. Everyone has to buy basic private insurance (doesn’t cover stuff like dental) unless you’re elderly, have a terminal condition, have a disability, etc (they have gov-funded insurance). But if you’re not in one of those categories, you pay the same rate as everyone else regardless of age, conditions, etc. For next year it’s about 160 EUR/month
