Maybe one of my most conservative takes is that repeat violent offenders should get way harsher sentences than they do. Why would you put someone who’s been charged with 12 violent crimes back in society with basically no attempt to remediate the behavior

And another thing too, conservatives are always bringing up Iryna Zarutska and often leave out that her killer was known to be schizophrenic. He called 911 a bunch of times prior to her murder saying a “man made substance” was controlling him and they just took him to jail for a bit without admitting him to an institution or anything. And I don’t like when Trump talks about just throwing people in mental institutions forever but clearly a lot of people need help and slip through the cracks

I think the US criminal justice and rehabilitation system is a shit show from top to bottom in a lot of ways, but the low hanging fruit here is that people who have demonstrated over and over that they won’t abide by society’s most basic rules, for whatever reason, should not be out in society
