There is no moral justification for celebrating the 4th of July anymore. Celebrating the 4th of July means celebrating the atrocities committed by the US
Or it’s just an occasion where I get to see my family and friends. No normal person thinks the world would be a better place if I didn’t have some fucking burgers and barbecue with my family one less day per year

I don’t have any issue with that but I don’t want to see any American flags (unless they’re upside down) or any fireworks

Like I say this as someone totally on the left maybe we should focus on shit that actually matters instead of sitting on a high horse and telling people they can’t enjoy their life because they have to pay for the sins of the rich people who pull the strings

They don’t have to pay for the sins of the rich but by celebrating the 4th of July they celebrate those sins

The 4th of July isn’t a celebration of what’s going on in Venezuela right now. That’s like saying celebrating Christmas is also celebrating the Crusades

The celebration of the 4th of July is a celebration of the US and its history. That history includes numerous atrocities far outweighing the good it’s done. Christmas celebrates an aspect of Christianity that if anything contradicts the crusades

The 4th of July is a celebration of persecuted settlers declaring their independence from colonial powers. Would you say that does or doesn’t “contradict” American imperialism?

That’s only part of the holiday. Lots of the holiday is celebrating our military, police, and other awful people
