No but the IDF doesn’t use children as suicide bombers. When one side resorts to those tactics the other side tends to also stop fighting by the laws of war and do what they need to do to end things and their soldiers only priority becomes surviving even if that means shooting a surrendering enemy combatant because you don’t want to search them for a suicide vest and risk getting blown up by a suicide bomber. This kind of thing happened in Afghanistan as well.

War really brings people to do horrific things to save your brothers in arms and go home to their families. There was a lot of similar tactics used in the pacific in WW2. We fought an enemy just as fanatic if not more so.

Israel uses children as human shields. They have built their infrastructure in civilian centers. A large portion of the country is also former or active members of the IDF, the same group who kills children and commits war crimes. This is important context.

I’ve never heard of them using children as human shields. I’m not saying it hasn’t happened. Usually they are accused of shooting civilians and things like that which can be justified if the enemy is dressed as civilians. Using Palestinians as human shields would be impossible to justify.

Like the line that they are innocent freedom fighters demonized by western media is like practically word for word what a number of left-leaning western academics and journalists said about the Khmer Rouge. This is because they felt that if they did acknowledge those atrocities, then they would be giving ground to capitalists and would be undermining the international view of communism.

Conveniently, as soon as Vietnam invaded Cambodia to stop the Khmer Rouge, these people suddenly began acknowledging how bad they were. Because now it was no longer seen as disloyalty to communism, because the anti-Khmer Rouge Vietnamese were also communist.

This isn’t to say that Hamas has committed atrocities anywhere close to the scale of the Khmer Rouge. But it’s to say that militant groups of any alignment can commit atrocities, and that it’s incredibly naive and irresponsible to think that the motivations or circumstance of their origin means that a group can do no wrong.

I do believe I read either a Haaretz or a Guardian article that detailed interviews with IDF soldiers about how battalions would have designated Palestinian civilians known as mosquitos who would be sent into tunnels to clear mines
