I don’t get why so many “leftists” are against hunting. 9 times out of 10 that meat will have been acquired more humanely than any meat people buy from companies.

i think the issue is recreational hunting more than hunting for food tbh

I think for a lot of people it just feels more cruel because of its hands on nature, even if that’s usually incorrect. With meat you buy in the store you can psychologically distance yourself from the animal, in a way that can hide the unethical nature. So while hunting is usually more ethical it doesn’t *feel* that way. Except trophy or big game sport hunting that stuff sucks.

I’m fine with hunting as long as it’s legal, it’s an important control on certain prey populations. My only issue is how most conservation funding comes from hunting, making management agencies prioritize hunting above other forms of recreation.

It can be (I’m a biology and conservation major) but I still don’t really like it if it’s purely recreational and not for meat. If you’re hunting bison and reasonably using the meat that’s fine, I don’t distinguish between deer and a bison just because it’s big. Rhino sport hunting is a really important way to gain conservation funding in Africa and can be used for population control, but I have a low opinion of all the Americans going out and doing it if that makes sense.

And I view elephant hunting as being inherently unethical just because of their intelligence
