I mean it shouldn’t. A society should be judged based upon how it meets everyone’s needs, not what the average income is or how much one person is getting compared to someone else. Everyone deserves access to healthcare, housing, education, healthy food, and dignity regardless of how much they earn. While people can still earn different incomes, basic quality of life houldn't depend on wealth. But we have a system that ties necessities to income and should be replaced with a system that-

Gate should be open. The issue is we have a culture that implies eating is only nice if it's in some NYC restaurant, days are only well spent with an elaborate outing, etc. We're constantly told to strive even WITH the basics met.
