No you Catholics aren’t exempt either, you push the same core mythology and plenty reinforce the same harmful ideology

Specifically evangelicals, I’m a Protestant (united methodist) and we don’t do shit like this

The core of the ideology is following Christ who stood by and got killed for supporting disenfranchised peoples

It’s crazy how nice and cozy you can paint it when you ignore your gods behavior from the first half of the book 🤭

so if literally anyone called themselves a king and put themselves in direct opposition to the roman hierarchy they also would've been executed that's sorta how that works

You’re gonna find fucked up shit in any book written that long ago let’s be real

Pilate was reluctant to execute him, it was the locals of Israel and Judea who wanted him killed

Correct, because it is mythology from an ancient culture. It changes however when you claim it’s the actual word of an omnipotent god. When he punishes men by raping their wives or orders the genocide of an ethic group, you should think twice about whether he is good, or get this, even real.

Humans wrote the bible, not god. And all humans are flawed beings influenced by the biases of their times

I think you might be under the impression that you’re speaking with an evangelical?

Great reason to not take anything those flawed humans have to say about god seriously 🤭. But god directly commands these things in the book, how do we know what is true and what isn’t? Is anything bad a product of human flaws, and anything good gods divinity shining through the text?

Nope, obviously you catholics take the book less seriously, but that just goes to show how religions change with the culture of a society, because they are societal constructs.

There are things in the old testament that conflict what we objectively know in the modern era, an easy example is the creation of our planet. Point being, taking the book too literally is illogical, and that’s not heretical to say. “But God commands these things in the book” No, it was a belief however many thousands of years ago that God did such things, and the oral tradition eventually got written down

Ahhh ok ok, so we believe in the main idea of the New Testament is true, but reject practically everything else, ESPECIALLY anything that would undermine our beliefs 🤪

Because following this Judean guy’s message improves enough people’s lives that it keeps them believing that he was on to something? I mean the only real answer is because it works

“Because following Muhammad improves enough people’s lives that it keeps them believing he was onto something? I mean the only real answer is because it works” this “argument” works for literally any religion or belief system 💀

If there’s only one God then everyone’s ultimately praying to the same one even if they don’t realize it, so yeah that would make sense tbh

I mean in truth I’m a pantheistic heretic who happened to have been raised catholic, but there’s still value in the Bible imo

Hey by denying scripture as the word of god you just committed blasphemy and are now eligible for excommunication just to let you know

It’s not the direct word of God, it is written by humans *inspired by god* but you’re allowed to interpret scripture with a grain of salt in catholicism

Interpreting your literal written dogma however you want invites schisms and means your religion is literally nothing
