
The unfortunate truth is, the literacy crisis has just finally aged into higher ed. She is genuinely performing at the new normal. Younger students are reporting (actually boasting, like this is somehow a good thing) graduating highschool without ever having read a book (19% of highschools can’t even read). 50% of US adults can’t read (and thus can’t write) past 8th grade level. 33% of people will never read a book after highschool. 42% never read another book after college.
