OPEC has also increased production significantly because they want to steal market share from the US and potentially undercut them. The point where drilling is no longer profitable for some of those countries is WAY lower than the US

I think gas may be a loss leader yes, they probably sell around cost.
Although I think for your example, you can’t buy a Costco chicken without a membership… it’s the memberships that give them the $$ from what I understand
