the M1 carbine in this image was actually illegal under the NFA, but they didn’t realize this until the army had already sold off 240,000 to civilians. This is why the barrel length limit for rifles is 16” and still 18” for shotguns
Do you know the context behind this photo? Allegedly, the “assassins” he expected were not govt or supremecists

Funny how its always the wood guns people use for hunting that are actual military surplus firearms, meanwhile AR15s (which have never been used by the military) get so much shit about being a military gun.

IRA armalite songs aren't referring to the AR15

Really? I thought they used M16s and M4s. I'll go check the AR15s at the store for auto sears now that you mention it though.

In fact, didn't they use the M16 and M4 prior to the invention of the AR15? Interesting how that works out.

Maybe it's because the AR15 is the civilian rifle version of a military platform? If it were a military rifle, wouldn't the military have used it once?

The US Air Force bought 8,500 AR15s in 1961

you on fraud watch. the AR-15 was invented in 1956 as a sized down AR-10, and then was dubbed as the M16 in 1962 when the US Army decided to adopt it as their rifle after Colt bought the patents. the AR-15 is the OG and the basis for the US Military's rifles since Nam. I've used an actual M4 and built my own AR-15 from scratch along with buying a premade, I know firsthand from working on em that they're basically functionally identical, besides the Fire Control Group and associated receiver.

They were called XM16E1 at the time, and had auto sears. Verifiably not an AR15

"They're basically functionally identical if you ignore the major functional differences" Yeah ok guy. Building ARs is like building legos anyways.

there's of course some variances like piston vs rotating gas bolt and also some aren't rated for the same chamber pressure as one another, but these don't really change the fact that it's essentially the same weapon platform with different tuning lol

Is the glock 17 the same gun as the glock 18?

I'd hope your answer is "yes" for consistency's sake, but for the sake of logic I'd hope it's "no" considering they don't even share a model number. I am excited to see if you choose the consistent path or the logical one.

I am gonna start using this logic to piss off fudds though, 1911 and hi power are now the same thing because they look similar and browning made both of them.

You wanna split hairs over "functional differences?" I'll just counter with the fact the OG AR-15 had the same full auto capabilities the M16/M4 does. It is and always was meant for military use, and virtually identical to its siblings. Shrill whataboutism with the G18 and juvenile strawmanning with the Brownings won't change that. I'm out, enjoy being a pedant nephew lmao

The differences between the G17 and G18 are similar enough to the differences between the AR15 and M16 that its not a whataboutism, its a direct comparison of the logic of how you came to the conclusion that the AR15 is the M16.
