we send them aid and protect them in the un and in return they give us access to their spy networks and their military technology, they fight our enemies before we have to and take the brunt of the response, and extra bonus (this is my guess) dominate public discussions of aid money and military spending so much that everywhere else our money goes gets way less scrutiny

I definitely was being hyperbolic when I said “propped up,” which is yet another reason why we shouldn’t be giving them anything. The 140ish billion we’ve given over the past 40 years could’ve been used for quite literally anything else

yeah the 140ish billion could have been used for anything else. but i think what people miss is 140 billion is minuscule compared to how much money we’ve spent on defense over the past 40 years. and do you know where the rest of the money goes? because a lot of it, i don’t, and no one does, bc it’s not public information. for instance the pentagon keeps failing audits because literally no one knows where 60% of their $3.5 trillion actually went

aid to israeli is absolutely a moral issue but not super financially significant to our government

also most aid to israel comes with strings, like its required to be spent buying things from American defense contractors only. some of it has provisions like “if you buy a particular item from American contractors using this money you can’t buy that item from anyone else or manufacture it yourself”
