I think wealthy middle aged people rightly fear wealth confiscation. Mamdani has been publishing lists of names and addresses of second homes, which is basically an invitation for squatters and looters if they know a rich person has a house somewhere that’s unoccupied. Wealth taxes always start at billionaires then make their way down to millionaires and suddenly everyone making over $200k is taxed out the ass. I don’t see too much fear of non-whites but I’m in a diverse area.

I get that, I have family members (democrats) who feel the same way. I didn’t know about Mamdani doing that and at first glance, I don’t agree with it either, but it’s also not a list of everyone who has a 2nd home. It’s people who have a non-primary residence worth over $1million. It’s a step in the direction of taxing people who have multiple properties, which I think most people agree would be a positive thing.

Idk why he shared the list publicly, but I don’t think he’s going for anyone other than multi-millionaires & if he did go for people who making 200k or even a few million, no one would support it. there just seems to be this right-wing fear mongering narrative about democratic socialists and like muslims and stuff. when you really look into DSA policies, its not as crazy as they’re making it seem
