Imagine telling people whose ancestors are actually from this region of the world, that they’re illegal. Like, what kind of cognitive dissonance is that? Tf?

Deadass, and it gets worse when you look at how manifest destiny got taught to us as a heroic story. That same cognitive dissonance is how this nation was built. The US took half of Mexico in 1848, and the border literally moved over people who were already here. A lot of folks being called "illegal" have Indigenous roots on this continent going back thousands of years, while the people calling them that often descend from settlers who never asked anyone's permission.

Do you actually not understand the concepts of governments, sovereignty, legal history and practice, borders, legal status? Or do you just not accept any of those concepts to begin with

Like, why would it matter to your lily white ass if immigrants were around, unless….they scare you for some reason, and why would they scare you, because you did something? Because you don’t know them? Why do your personally feel the need to be defensive? Weird shit 👀

immigrants are consistently beneficial long term to the country they live in, but a country obviously has the right to determine what immigrants they wish to have in their country

Normally you have good takes so this is really disappointing. The problem is not immigration, it’s violent conquest to claim ownership over land a.k.a. COLONIALISM. That’s not the same thing as mere immigration.

I’m not sure that works as a traditional definition of colonialism. I think a lot of things can be true about manifest destiny, functionally how would we deal with taking the southwest from Mexico
