States have different laws for when a Senate seat becomes vacant. Some states allow for the Governor to appoint a replacement whereas other states require a special election

Fair enough. Her term only lasts until January so unless she decides to run for re-election someone else will hold the seat. Democrat Annie Andrews is running and she’s a great candidate so if you live in SC definitely vote for her!
