Why do Dumbocrats think Venezuela doesn’t need regime change? Maduro is causing a humanitarian crisis and is extremely corrupt.

Because of how it went in Iraq. Unilaterally invading countries because our government is greedy for oil, even if those countries are ruled by bad men, rarely turns out well. And judging by the US’s executions of suspected drug traffickers, the wellbeing of Venezuelans would not be a priority.

That worked incredibly well in other Latin American countries, right? We aren’t seeing tons of migrants fleeing violence from those countries, right?

This is all about getting China out of the Western hemisphere. China has sunk $60 billion into Venezuelan oil and receives over 300 barrels a day from Venezeula

Also, we install a puppet government that we can exploit for resources and they almost always consolidate power through violence. Leading to a nation that will not be democratic, and a people that will refuse to be our allies in the future. Geopolitically, it is a short term move that cascades into negative effects in the long term. It will probably make the current administration look good, but lead to problems for the people and future ones.

Yeah the U.S. has a long history of replacing overthrown Latin American socialist governments with brutal U.S.-backed dictators.

*Problems for the people of America, who will have kids that might have to die in wars because of it. Considering how selfishly Trump is moving, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is one of the cases where there’s going to be major issues later

Like let’s be real the US does NOT actually care about authoritarianism and mistreatment of people, as shown by us being buddy buddy with Saudi Arabia and how many dictatorships we have installed or backed. I mean we were actively allied with Saddam the guy got the key to the city of Detroit in 1980. The U.S. just soured on him because of the invasion of Kuwait.

Wasn’t securing the border supposed to fix that? Why don’t we try getting people off drugs?

yes that is what you've been told. it's a war for oil. full stop. just like the past few decades of our conflicts have been. don't support us throwing young men at foreign countries to die for big oil

Firstly there really is not good evidence that Maduro is intentionally trying to funnel drugs or that the Venezuelan government is organizing drug trafficking in any real way. Also, the Trump admin clearly doesn’t care that much about punishing Latin American presidents who drug traffick

Don’t forget how we let MS-13 members off the hook for plotting to kill an FBI agent. They’re roaming free in El Salvador because MS-13 is in bed with Bukele

There’s almost no fentanyl coming from Venezuela. They export cocaine for the most part

So I guess we’ll just go to war then? Spend billions invading a country in the hopes that it might solve our own public health problems? Instead of treating the root cause, which is demand for drugs?
