What i’m getting is that republican presidents mostly inherit the benefits of prior democratic presidents stamping out anti-government extremist groups

Don’t forget the huge proliferation of social media between 2008-2012. Internet was already connecting people but social media in general exploded during that time frame.

Extremist content is more widely available. So more people could self-radicalize on their own and then organize with others.
