So it looks like FL will gerrymander as well FL Dems and VA Repubs in Congress should get together and propose a nat’l gerrymandering ban. That’ll happen right after my date w/Sydney Sweeney

Both side have proposed a ban on gerrymandering and BOTH side have rejected it. Both dems and reps use it and neither side actually wants to get rid of it. They only say they do when it suits them.

Even if they do, it will get rejected just like it has every time before.

No harm in trying again. House republicans should propose a national ban, idk why they wouldn’t. If we don’t have one, this “race to the bottom” will continue

Politics is a game. Nothing more. The point is to use every advantage you can get. Take gerrymandering out of the equation are taking out that huge advantage everyone tries to use. The people playing the game don’t want that.

When did republicans propose a gerrymandering ban?

90s and early 2000s. Also fun fact, the dems created gerrymandering under the Jeffersonian Party (aka Democratic-Republican party) which is the precursor to the modern day Democratic Party.

The term was coined from Elbridge Gerry who created an oddly shaped district in New Jersey to maximize the voting power of his party. The Boston Gazette likened it to a salamander, hence the name gerrymandering.

Democratic party of 1800s ≠ Democratic party of 2020s

You’re right. The Democratic Party doesn’t exist in the 1800s. The Democratic-Republican party did, which I already stated. The Democratic Party does have the SAME ideology as the Democratic-Republican party. The only difference is that they changed their name in the 1900s.

The Democratic party of the pre-LBJ days is not the Democratic party of today 🤣 nevertheless both parties should agree to ban this. GOP controls House rn and are angry ab VA, so they should give a proposal a try

The party has changed over time, sure, but acting like all connection disappeared is just lazy history. The core thread is still there: pushing back on concentrated power, expanding participation, and appealing to ordinary people over elites. No one said it’s an exact clone of the Jefferson’s party. I said follow the same ideology as the Democratic-Republican and Jeffersonian Parties, which is true.
