like gen z is 1997-2012 but like, after the 1997-2004/5/6 group is where the gap becomes noticeable, in that covid had this weird radicalizing effect on a lot of them, pushing them far rightward. the first half of gen z is a continuance of the further progressivism of millennials, being the most progressive yet, but the second half is pushing boomers back
it genuinely seems determined by who experienced some semblance of life as a teenager without covid, without feeling restricted to have built resentment towards science and the world to be anti intellectual, to have had the opportunity to go to school normally and not be able to brush off assignments and be more anti intellectual
exposing myself as unc, im 02. class of 2020. i was virtual for 2 months. im still in college bc im getting another degree. but i promise you my cutoff is fr 2003 and thats a stretch. anyone who did anything more than a couple months in high school virtually or hybrid, i can tell immediately, bc thats rlly when the transition happened between online reality and real world reality.
also in education, because before we left, we were still handwriting shit. we had textbooks. all of a sudden, everything is online, everything is typed and read online, etc. and bc teachers really had to find their footing a LOT of ppl passed that rlly shouldn’t have. thats where the divide starts i believe. class of 2021 forward, theres a real difference
