I am a leftist and I think they should remain Spanish because I believe in self determination of peoples and the colonization was a full 600 years ago.

Yep. The same country that’s a loose amalgamation of related but definitely separate ethnolinguistic groups whose primary unification happened less than two centuries ago and mainly occurred to increase collective political power.
