
italy, culturally, is around where America was at the year the civil rights act was passed. sure discrimination is legally outlawed, but damn near every older white Italian and officer of the state will ignore a non-white person being hurt or discriminated against, and will commonly engage in that discrimination themselves. Do not be mistaken and think Italy is better, they’re also fascist and, just like during the holocaust, will likely be siding with current rising fascist regimes.
also they’re a lot more patriarchal than here in America, I don’t think it’s been deconstructed in the slightest (not which makes sense given the older population, as well as the fucking Vatican having its one country WITHIN the country of Italy lmao, don’t get me wrong tho, it’s not like Americans fully deconstructed it (or even mostly deconstructed it) either)
