It really sucks how the news cycle pushes important ongoing shit under the rug. Ever since the WHCD shooting, I’ve seen considerably less conversation around the Iran War and its effects. We’ve gotten used to the effects, and now we don’t talk about it.Honestly that’s why unless you’re boots-on-the-ground type organizing for the “big day,” yknow, it’s best to just take keynotes and move on with your day. Like yes it’s important to know what is going on but what is most important is ensuring your ability to function and still try to find the moments that make you feel some sort of happy. We already know the truths of this country and system
Those truths won’t change. Each new horror is just another brick in the wall and the news understands it can weaponize constant coverage to make us feel scared and beaten down and give up before anything even happens. It’s a way to instill pre-compliance and normalize everything. We already know it’s all fake and not normal, yknow
Anyways, to respond to your actual point, I know this is how it is in this bitch of a country, but when something is so obviously an opportunity for me to win hearts and minds to my perspective, and it’s in EVERYONE around me’s consciousness already, that’s something I want people talking about. The Iran War discussion was just that.
Financial news is talking about the Iran War, for sure. But it’s no longer front-page in the general news. That’s shifted to the shooting at the dinner and the recent Supreme Court ruling to completely defang the VRA. And I completely understand why defanging the VRA is now the front page, it just annoys me that the current government does so much dumb shit in a day that it’s hard to even formulate effective lines against them before they move on to the next batshit evil move.
And I’m aware that it’s a conscious strategy on their part of flooding the zone, as well as cramming the craziest stuff they can into the current moment because they’re most likely going to lose their majorities in the legislature. And it is admittedly a difficult one to deal with because to change minds you have to have basically the same conversation multiple times, and their zone-flooding does not allow for consistency of rhetoric like that.
