Dipshit Americans being afraid of an Islamic takeover is so funny. The only religious zealots trying to violate our First Amendment rights to freedom of religion are conservative Christian nationalists.

Yeah being afraid of an Islamic takeover is ridiculous. I acknowledge that Muslims do on average typically hold different viewpoints than the average American which I’m sure will eventually be reflected in policy at least on a local level but I don’t necessarily see that as an issue. I mean their more critical stance on sending aid to Israel is certainly a good thing.

Obviously conservative Christian nationalists are a huge threat to our politics in this country, more than Islam, however that’s mainly because Christians make up the majority of religious people in this country. Can we just admit that both Christianity and Islam are equally harmful, and shouldn’t influence our politics? Both religions express and perpetuate harmful ideologies as they’re both conservative, patriarchal, misogynistic, homophobic, etc.

Yes. The difference is that Islamic politicians aren’t trying to force their religion’s cultural beliefs onto others because “muh Quran says so,” unlike Christian politicians who regularly and openly do exactly that because “muh bible says so.” And yes, that is primarily because they make up an extreme minority in this country. That doesn’t change the fact that, of the two of them, Christian zealots are the only active threat.

That’s mainly because we don’t have any Islamic nationalists in our government lol. If we did, then they’d be doing the exact same thing that Christians do. (Which they have already done in other countries) I agree that there is not a threat from any Muslim politicians right now. The ones who are in like Mamdani and Abdul seem pretty chill and I’m not worried about them at all honestly. My point is just that it isn’t impossible for there to be an Islamic nationalist one day in the future.

I just don’t really trust religious people in general since I’m an atheist. But I can absolutely recognize when a politician is an extremist vs one who is not. Like James Talarico seems very chill, he’s religious but believes in separation of church and state, but Sarah Huckabee Sanders on the other hand is a nutcase who wants to enforce the 10 commandments in schools 😭 she makes me absolutely livid

Yes. That’s the point.
