I agree. That was a big fuck up. Although I think there is legitimate debate: does lifting sanctions and free trade actually lead to political liberalization? That’s what we thought would happen to China. Instead, their internet is censored, dissent is forbidden, and they’re more authoritarian than ever.

Actually, something that is notable: their people hate this, and they have been able to find workarounds. The CCP is held up from within by corruption, and it’s actually become quite unstable now that they have any internet at all.

I think Trump is terrible, and I think he’s pretty much a Russian puppet, but I admit that a broken clock can be right twice a day.
