dude the star was intentionally stretched on the person. the tip of the star does not project that high, it should be around the feet, maybe knees, max. they literally stretched the tip of the star to make it as emphasized as it is; while realizing it in the same shoot as the image with shoes dangling from a tree.
you say media literacy like this was intentional, y’all are the ones who think that a white triangle equals a clan hood. Let me remind you, this was made by the Malaysian marketing team. Do you think they have American media training or even know what the kkk is ??? like I’ll call it a dog whistle, but that means that there was intent
but I just don’t see it, like i’m woke, I understand that lynching aren’t exactly a thing of the past, but I feel like if we cry every white triangle as racism it just loses all meaning right? Like the model in the photo isn’t white, and it’s not like they just released this image it was released with all of the pictures of her photo shoot and a video?
It’s an attempt to desensitize the public to things like lynching or references made to it. The point is that they can make the image, it can obviously look like one thing but they can claim they didn’t mean it that way and avoid most of the backlash. It also had to get through so many people to get published, which is meant to prevent this sort of thing, making people think it’s intentional
it’s a subliminal reference to both the kkk and lynchings…. remember in my other comment where I said how the projection of the top of the star was intentionally manipulated and stretched farther upwards than it normally would be, if otherwise left alone? they altered the star’s shape/light in order to achieve that shape, which resembles the outfit of a klansmen. while it may not directly prove intention, I’d say it damn well supports the claim.
But you think that the manipulation was intentional to resemble a klan hood, with no other evidence than you kind of think it looks like that. It looks like she’s standing in the point of the star to illuminate the shoes that she’s wearing as well as as part of the silhouette that she’s holding. It’s called contrast and negative space it’s used all over advertising, to me it looks like the logo? Why are you so convinced that it’s supposed to be a clan hood or that it even looks like one?
but the thing about dog whistles is that it has to have intent, and at least some identifiable feature that signals it as a dog whistle, you’re literally pointing at a yellow triangle and a girl holding a pair of shoes, calling it a clans hood and a hanging person. Like you’re genuinely looking for a hidden Mickey here
Okay, hold the fuck up, yellow?? I understand perception is subjective, but do you see that star as yellow rather than predominantly white? (I ask because that could definitely be contributing to this) Secondly, there ARE identifiable features, as everyone has been discussing. most notably, an artificially altered star that resembles the hood of a klansmember. solely because you refuse to acknowledge the identifiable features that are causing us to criticize this campaign as having dogwhistles
hidden throughout it, does not discredit the fact that there are indeed identifiable features. secondly, it is the combination between the artificially altered star shape (which resembles a klan hood) AND the image of shoes dangling from a tree branch. if you can’t comprehend why these are being analyzed, maybe you’re not as woke as you think you are.
but it’s not artificially altered. She’s standing in one of the points. That’s how light projection and shadows work😭 It’s not making a clan hood. It’s illuminating her skirt the shoes she’s wearing as well as part of the shoe that she’s holding, while the other shoes, sit in the back in contrast, like this isn’t a depiction of clan imagery at all
no, the projected light should fall lower on her body in comparison to where the star is on the floor, especially when considering the lengths of the other portions of the star. in all honesty, it seems like you *really* just don’t want to consider that converse could’ve fucked up for whatever reason. idk what type of coping this is, but all it changes is your own perspective. ultimately, as I said earlier, you denying intent does nothing to change the impact, and you don’t even know whether
there was intent or not; you’re just *willingly* jumping to the defense of a company that released problematic imagery as a part of their recent marketing campaign, which led people to believe that they were sympathizing with white supremacists (whether it was their intention or not) with all due respect, and I’m sorry to tell you once again, but you are not as woke as you think you are
