
Idk that’s why it’s so weird. It doesn’t make any sense. The guy was like hey I will straight up give you what you want and you don’t have to spend money and lives to get it plus you get to keep soft power and save face, but Trump still rejected it. This was a massive strategic blunder, and if some college student can see that the White House sure as hell can too.
It doesn’t make sense though. You get the oil either way, the peaceful way is better for imperialism bc it’s quieter and saves face + money + lives. We barely got any oil rights in Iraq either, like only one or two oil fields if I remember correctly, with the majority of controlling rights going to Asian and European companies. Imperialism has to actually make sense
Venezuelan oil is also crude and unrefined, setting proper infrastructure up for extraction and profiteering will take potentially decades. America is the largest producer of oil on earth, our largest import partner is Canada, and the world is moving to electric/renewables. It just doesn’t make sense from an imperial strategic perspective
