The government doesn’t even have the decency to lie about our motives for invading Venezuela (oil btw) and yall are still so oblivious that you act like this is about “freedom” and “democracy” in Venezuela

Honestly appreciate the transparency but I feel like it’s the guilty conscious from the files mixed with a power trip (precedent for facism)

Idk that’s why it’s so weird. It doesn’t make any sense. The guy was like hey I will straight up give you what you want and you don’t have to spend money and lives to get it plus you get to keep soft power and save face, but Trump still rejected it. This was a massive strategic blunder, and if some college student can see that the White House sure as hell can too.

(Maduro offered to give all exclusive oil rights to America already and to step down before we went in)

I feel like we’ve seen this before tho. Look at Iraq and Panama. Imperialism is never peaceful, and I believe imperialism for oil is exactly what is happening

It doesn’t make sense though. You get the oil either way, the peaceful way is better for imperialism bc it’s quieter and saves face + money + lives. We barely got any oil rights in Iraq either, like only one or two oil fields if I remember correctly, with the majority of controlling rights going to Asian and European companies. Imperialism has to actually make sense

Venezuelan oil is also crude and unrefined, setting proper infrastructure up for extraction and profiteering will take potentially decades. America is the largest producer of oil on earth, our largest import partner is Canada, and the world is moving to electric/renewables. It just doesn’t make sense from an imperial strategic perspective
